An insight…

Often we Indians go to an astrologer, or a palmist to find out what the future has in store for us. We are termed as superstitious for doing so. But when the Western society believes in an animal having one beak, three hearts and eight arms, nobody points a finger at them. It doesn’t require any rocket science to guess as to which being I am referring to here. Paul the Octopus predicted the outcome of Germany’s seven matches and Spain’s triumph in the FIFA 2010 final. He chose before the matches from two transparent containers lowered into his tank. Each contained mussels and was adorned with the national flag of one side. Which team’s food he devoured first would win.

Astonishing eh!

When we come to think of it rationally we find that it is a simple case of probability. So what if Paul correctly predicted the outcome 8 times? There was this nonsense correlation prevailing in America long time back that said the candidate with the longer name never lost the race for the U.S. presidency. That worked from 1932, when Roosevelt beat Hoover, to 1960, when Kennedy beat Nixon, but came apart when Goldwater lost to Johnson in 1964. That’s eight elections, of course, exactly the number of matches Paul predicted. Paul always had to decide between 2 teams, and so it can be sheer luck factor that he was right every time, but out of 100 times he can’t be right more than 90 times. That’s what the law of probability states. There’s also a possibility that whenever Paul predicted the outcome of any particular match, the side which he favoured got a psychological advantage over the other. It boosted the morale of the pre-decided winners.

Anyways, it was a great World Cup. The best team won. Without eating mussels, quite a few people predicted a Spanish victory at the outset before having a German wobble caused by emotion to which octopi are immune. Speaking of emotions, after Paul predicted Germany’s semi final loss many people wanted him to be roasted as if it was because of his predictions that they actually lost. Grow up people. Let rationality and not emotions be the basis of judging a person (in this case an animal)

True to His nature, Guruji comes with a beautiful and such a life-changing statement. It goes like:

See the past as your destiny and future as your free-will.Though the past karma’s would play a significant role in shaping up the future, but through deep meditations, Kriya and grace we can rid ourselves of past impressions.
That is why being on the spiritual path is so much important. A Guru is a garbage collector, surrender all the shit going inside your mind, and you would then realize what capabilities, talents and skills would flourish in your lives… I am experiencing that.
Aho!

I couldn't agree more...it was sheer coincidence that Paul's predictions came true! Westerners should look more closely at themselves before labelling Indians as superstitious the next time around!;)
